Preparing for your Appointment

Before your appointment, please complete & submit a New Patient Registration Form online here.

What should I bring to my appointments with my dermatologist?

1. Your referral letter: Although a referral is not essential to be seen, it is necessary if you wish to claim the consultation fees from Medicare.

2. Any relevant medical history or pathology results.

3. List of current medications: This helps in providing a comprehensive overview of your medical history.

4. Current skincare routine: List or take a photo of your current skin/hair care products.

5. Medicare card.

6. DVA, concession or pension card if relevant

7. Makeup: If possible, come to your appointment without makeup to allow for a more accurate assessment of your skin's true condition.

8. What to wear: Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment so that your dermatologist can easily examine the area of concern.

9. Arrival time: Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment to allow time for registration.

Do I need a Referral?

• For Medical Consultations with Dermatologists: A referral is required if you wish to receive a Medicare rebate.

• For Cosmetic Consultations: No referral is necessary. Generally, there are no Medicare or Private Health insurance rebates for cosmetic treatments. However, there are exceptions, such as treatment for facial capillaries, birthmarks, and certain types of scarring. Your dermatologist will advise you on what can be claimed prior to commencing treatments.

• For children under the age of 16: A valid GP referral is highly recommended to ensure clear communication between your local doctor and your specialist regarding your condition, medical history, and medications, which helps in providing the best possible care.

A referral from your GP is typically valid for twelve months. A referral from a specialist is valid for three months.
